Question 7/XVIII - Performance objectives for timing and controlled slips (synchronization), jitter, wander and propagation delay 1. What further Recommendations should be made regarding the performance objectives for timing and frequency tolerance, controlled slip, jitter, wander and propagation delay of the transmission path in digital networks including networks employing the Synchronous Digital Hierarchy and including 64 kbit/s and broadband ISDNs? 2. What further improvement can be made to the definition of Maximum Time Interval Error (MTIE) so as to include the statistical characteristics of clocks? 3. What is the need for synchronization at higher bit rates to cater for broadband services? 4. What further consideration should be given to the problem of jitter, and wander in order to refine the network performance objectives, specifically, how should the accumulation of jitter be controlled? Note - Specific reference should be made to Recommendation G.921. 5. What consideration needs to be given to the effect of variations in cross-network delay, including waiting-time jitter, in ATM circuits? 6. What will be the effects on jitter/wander and MTIE of the inclusion of international and domestic satellite links in the network?
