Question 12/VII - Management aspects of interworking between public networks, and between public networks and other networks, when involved in the provision of data services (amalgamation of Question 23/VII, Question 26/VII and part of Question 10/VII) Considering (a) that the provision of data services may require several networks to interwork; (b) the framework of X-Series Recommendations related to interworking given in Recommendation X.300; (c) that Recommendations X.300-Series define general principles for interworking between public networks, or between public networks and other networks for the provision of data services; (d) that Recommendation X.370 defines interworking of management information; (e) that Recommendations X.50, X.50bis, X.51, X.52, X.53, X.54, X.60, X.61, X.70, X.71, X.75, X.81 and X.82 define detailed interworking interfaces of public networks; (f) that the I.600-Series Recommendations define maintenance in ISDN; (g) that Recommendations X.200-Series define OSI reference model, service definitions and protocols; (h) that Recommendations M.30 and G.771 define a telecommunication management network; (i) that the maintenance of public networks are under the responsibility of administrations and operating agencies, and that maintenance principles must be harmonized in order to: -provide, as far as possible, the same maintenance of customer services, -define maintenance principles on international sections between two public networks it is necessary to study the following: 1. What should be the maintenance and operation principles of an international section? 2. What would be the requirements for OSI management from a public network point of view? 3. What differentiation would be appropriate between each layer management and system management at layer 7? 4. What management objects for public networks need to be defined based on common management from work specified by Question 24/VII? 5. What management features specific to public networks are needed in addition to common OSI management? 6. What kind of interworking between public network exchanges and a management center? 7. What relation to telecommunication management networks should be achieved? 8. What other management aspects (e.g. accounting and configuration control) in addition to maintenance should be studied? 9. What enhancements to existing Recommendations X.302 and X.370, or new Recommendations are needed, if any, to cover points above? Note 1 - Close cooperation with the relevant Questions in this Study Group (OSI reference model and higher layer protocols) on OSI management is expected. Note 2 - Close cooperation with other Study Groups on ISDN maintenance and telecommunication management network is to be established.
