Question 1/VII - Standardization of the technical characteristics of user classes of service, international data transmission services and optional user facilities in public data networks (PDNs) and ISDNs and the categories of access for DTEs to such services (Amalgamation of Questions 1/VII and 2/VII studied in 1985-88) considering (a) that Recommendations X.1, X.2, X.4 and X.10 define the requirements of international data transmission services; (b) that PDNs and ISDNs are used to provide data transmission services; (c) that harmonization of supplementary services provided by the different types of network is important; (d) that studies are continuing into the interworking between different types of service (e.g., packet-switched and circuit-switched); (e) that a possible reorganization of Recommendations X.1 and X.10 is desirable in order to clarify the requirements; (f) that Study Group I is responsible for the definition and operational aspects of public data transmission services; (g) that Study Group III is responsible for tariff aspects of public data transmission services; (h) that Study Group XVIII is responsible for ISDN, What additional user classes of service, categories of access, services, DTE services and facilities, if any, should be standardized? Note 1 - The possible definition of DTE services and the applicability of the various optional user facilities for classes of service 8-13 in the case of switched connection to a PAD should be studied. Note 2 - Other matters relevant to Recommendations X.1, X.2, X.4 and X.10 should be considered. Note 3 - The deletion of unnecessary requirements should be considered. Note 4 - Liaison with Study Groups I, III and XVIII as appropriate should be undertaken.
